PowerNota is a consulting company with core competencies in the electrical industry specific to product development, sales & marketing strategy and codes & standards.

We provide expertise in surge protection, back-up power supplies (UPS), wiring devices , occupancy sensors, personnel protection (GFCI/AFCI), lighting and fan speed controls.

PowerNota’s founder and lead consultant is Matt Wakeham who holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and started his career with Underwriters Laboratories. After 8 years with UL, he moved on to Leviton Manufacturing where he spent 15 years as Director of New Product Development & Marketing in the OEM and Power Quality divisions. Matt is presently a voting member of UL Standards Technical Panels for Low-Voltage Lighting Systems (UL2108), Sustainability for Luminaires (ULE106), Current Taps & Adapters (UL498A), Lightning Protection Systems (UL96A) and Surge Protective Devices (UL1449); participates in several IEEE working groups including protection of Photovoltaic & Wind Generation Systems and the Smart Grid (Vice Chair), and is also a member of the Long Island chapter for the U.S. Green Buildings Council.

Matt has been granted several U.S. Patents including designs for power disconnection methods, low-voltage datacom surge protectors and multiple outlet power strips. He served as chair of the IEEE working group that established the standard for ac power surge protection test specifications C62.62 - 2000. He has authored several articles in major industry publications and been a featured speaker at many electrical association conferences over the years.
